Apple Spaceship
Innovation in Technology and HVAC
As Apple is the world leader in technological advancement, it was imperative to present the most energy efficient design for the new Apple Spaceship building. The Apple Spaceship has a circular design with a 2.8 million square foot building, not including the large hollow space in the middle with trees, plants and even a pond. The total project cost was around $5 Billion USD.
Apple plans on having the entire Apple complex powered by renewable energy. The site is considered one of the most energy efficient buildings in the world. With one of the largest solar roofs in the world they can generate 17 megawatts of power. This is sufficient to power 75% during peak daytime. This campus has two Aermec NRL heat pumps with a buffer tanks and redundant pumps built inside of the unit. An advantage of having the pumps inside the unit is that mechanical room space is not required inside the building. These heat pumps provide carbon friendly hot water needed for all of the cafes on this campus. The campus has a total of 7 cafes, including one that is three levels and has doors that are 92 feet tall.
