Merit Functional Foods is in the process of building a cutting edge pea and canola protein production facility in Manitoba, Canada. This 94,000 square foot production facility will produce the world’s highest purity and highest quality pea and canola protein. According to Merit Co-CEO Ryan Bracken, “This facility is going to be key in redefining plant-based protein …. It’s a flexible facility that will produce an unprecedented pea protein and the first canola protein available for use in foods and beverages. Both of these proteins will have functional and nutritional characteristics that will set [us] apart from other ingredients available on the market” (Robbins, 2020).
Aermec will have a chiller on both the North Roof and South Roof of this facility in order to produce cooling all year round, combined with the free cooling chillers, there will be cooling process loads for the canola presses, wet process area, as well as cooling an air compressor and an air dryer. With a facility like Merit Functional Foods striving to produce green solutions all around, they looked to Aermec free cooling chillers as their most efficient and reliable solution for this process load application.
