3 NRL TOTAL HEAT RECOVERY CHILLERS

Surrey Memorial hospital is the second largest hospital in British Columbia. As of 2011, Surrey Memorial planned to provide service to over 93,000 emergency department patients per year. This called for the construction of a new eight story Critical Care Tower and was constructed from 2011 to 2013.

Looking for the most efficient way of heating and cooling this new tower, engineers noted that the hospital needed heating and cooling all year round. As a result, 3 Aermec 250 ton NRL total heat recovery chillers were provided.

These Aermec units provided cooling to a total of 750 tons of space and a data center, with the ability to recover 100% of the cooling to be used for heating. As a result, the hospital receives 750 tons of cooling and 750 tons of free or recovered heat. The recovered heat provides for hot water needs in the building for domestic hot water pre heat.

The new Critical Care Tower opened for patients in June 2014 and the engineers and hospital were so pleased with the operation of the Aermec chillers that they designed an Aermec unit into the Teck Acute Care Centre in Vancouver immediately after this job was completed.
